XMAS PARTY DILEMMA: TIME

I wanna be honest with you. Celebrating the most beautiful time of the year activates the stress mode in me. Not because I started too late finishing my xmas shopping (thank god online shopping does already exist!) but because I know that there’s gonna be a week (or two) where all the xmas parties take place. We are all looking forward to celebrate xmas and new year with our families. But until then, there’s this countdown. This countdown that is used for other parties.

I AM NOT A PARTY POOPER

Believe me. I’m really not. Quite the opposite. I enjoy any kind of celebration. I enjoy going out on the weekends. But sometimes it’s just too much. During this countdown there are several xmas parties taking place. And you can’t even skip them. Especially because you know that these parties are going to be fun. A lot of fun actually. We all know we are going to enjoy these celebrations. We are celebrating the time of the year. Maybe some of us are celebrating the time of their lives. But there’s just one problem: Time.

TIME IS EVERYTHING

As we are getting older, time is everything. And as we are getting older, it feels like we have less and less of it. On the evening before we are enjoying the xmas party. And maybe even a little too much. And then? What’s the result? A lack of time. Tiredness, a lack of concentration, things we forget. There’s nothing wrong with having fun, but sometimes we forget that we still have to prepare so much for the 24th and 25th during this xmas countdown that turns into a xmas party marathon. Celebrating the most beautiful time of the year together with friends or co-workers? Actually a nice idea, right? If only there wasn’t enough to do at this time of the year. And on christmas eve? Do we still have the energy to actually celebrate with our families? Is our battery still charged 100%? Can we give them the same attention that we gave the three bottles on the last xmas party?

THE TIME OF THE YEAR WHERE YOU HAVE TO MAKE PLANS

… Not only for yourself. This doesn’t mean that we should have to skip every xmas party. For me I just decided that I have to prioritize or manage my time wisely. As I said, I really enjoy celebrating this time of the year. I actually (still) enjoy any kind of party. That’s why I bought all my xmas presents online this year. And even then. Someone still has to pick up all the packages, because I ain’t gonna expect my neighbor to do all the work for me. But it isn’t only the xmas shopping that takes time. And no, also not the gift wrapping I’m talking about. It’s also all the work that you have to do before the holidays start. It’s the time of the year where you really have to work well-conceived. Not only for yourself but also for everyone in your team. Everyone that deserves to have the same rest that you want to have. The same rest that you think you deserve. Because they worked as hard if not even harder than you did.

JUST GO WITH WHAT YOU ALREADY HAVE

Deciding what to wear on a xmas party also takes time. Time that you could invest in something else. Something more important. Instead of shopping for an xmas party outfit just go with what you already have at home. I bought this sequin dress about two years ago. And let’s be honest. Holiday season is always sequin season. And if not you’ll go with something shiny or glittery. And you know that you have at least one piece at home. I just wasn’t feeling like wearing this dress in the same way I already wore it a few years ago, so I decided to wear it as a top and just pair it with these pants, that you can totally wear to the office. So the only thing that you have to do is change your top and do a little touch-up instead of heading home before the xmas party starts. Because guess what. That again would be precious time that you could invest in doing other tasks.
