TOUCH-DOWN IN VINTAGE BAG HEAVEN
The past year my body told me to take it slow and I’ve spent most of the time at home by myself to recover. Our generation is massively stressed out and it has become a status symbol. This phenomenon caught up with me and I wasn’t able to work for almost two months. So what exactly has this intro to do with the title of this blogpost? Actually it is quite the core of this post. You’ll understand.
VINTAGE BAG OBSESSION: IT HAS BECOME R E A L
I’ve always been obsessed with a good vintage bag and would rather wear my grandmothers bags than a hyped one. I always looked for the timeless piece that most of the people around me would find out of fashion and still go for logo-prints before logo-mania was even a thing. But it has become an obsession that all started when I was on sick leave and had nothing to do because the doctor prescribed a full month of bed rest. Browsing through all possible vintage shops, looking for specific designs that launched in specific years related to some special occasions in my life, I caught myself pulling an all-nighter just to compare the vintage bag I saw to other pre-loved ones. I started digging more and more into the designers inspiration and stories behind the designs until I found myself watching documentaries and learning more about the materials, serial numbers, codes, hardwares, re-sell worth and every possible detail around my favorite vintage bag.
I’M IN VINTAGE BAG HEAVEN
For my birthday this year I just wanted to take it slow. Since I’m working again for quite a while now, I just wanted to take a few days off, spend the days by the pool, even planned on visiting the zoo and take care of my current vintage bag collection, by conditioning every single one of them, like I mostly do on sundays just to relax. Let me tell you: I did non of the above. Instead, it just so happened, that I spontaneously booked a flight to Dublin. At first I really wasn’t that excited to fly there, because the city hasn’t been among my favorites since I was there a few years ago to work there for a few weeks. I had no expectations and just was about to visit my cousin who just moved to Dublin. So I suggested to go hiking and was too lazy to research on what to do there. Instead, my obsession just ran through my body right into my finger tips and I started typing: Vintage Bags Dublin. There it was. There were a few shops that looked okay, but really didn’t impress me from what I saw online.
Little did I know. On my first day there, I was strolling around the city center of Dublin, since my cousin went to work and passed a shop window that made me curious. One look and my face turned into the heart-eyed emoji. I walked in and arrived in vintage bag heaven. I had a quick chat with the store manager and it felt like I found a soulmate that had just reached the same level of obsession for vintage bags. He quickly complimented me on my Dior that you can see in the photos and it just so happened, that I asked him about a special bag of the year 1991 that I’ve been looking for the past 1 1/2 years. Unfortunately it is currently reserved but fingers crossed that I will soon receive a message telling me the exact opposite.
He was kind enough to suggest more stores within the city center and I have walked into every single one of them.
Apart from the good food, the lovely and friendly people, and the beautiful nature of Ireland in general, I will definitely be back in Dublin soon for another vintage bag hunt. Oh and of course to visit my cousin (he will probably understand that I’ve prioritized the bags, because he is quite aware of my crazy obsession for vintage babies).
