SOME THINGS ARE JUST NOT MEANT FOR YOU
Well, there are some things that are just not for you. Right before my vacation I visited Maria from Stilerie and asked for her professional advise. She’s a style and color advisor and told me some things that really made me happy, and some things that sort of broke my heart while I was sitting there, pretending to be okay. Haha! No, it wasn’t that heartbreaking. Keep on reading if you wanna know in detail what I’m talking about.
MY TYPE
Who would have thought, that I am a winter person. Right? No one. But yes. I am. I am a winter person that loves everything about summer. Weeeird. First off, I want to mention that I will only tell you a few things that I’ve learned because Maria gave me a lot of advise and I could totally write about it for the next three weeks I guess.
What’s typical for my type in general?
- vividly colored
- contrasty and dominant appeal
- confident
Sounds great, right? Exactly what I thought at the very moment back then. I felt great about myself. Until … well, keep on reading ;P
HONEY, CAMEL IS NOT YOUR COLOR
Shocking moment no. 1. Cause guess what. I entered Maria’s work space wearing my favorite camel coat and really had to laugh when I heard, that this color doesn’t compliment my skin tone at all, right after Maria analyzed what type of person I am when it comes to colors. Which colors do suit me? How many colors should I ditch completely? I picked some color palettes that I liked. She gave me so many options and I found my favorite two. Turns out that the winter color palette is just the right one for me.
LAYERING CAN BE A BAD THING
Shocking moment no. 2. Ok. Before you click the exit button just go on and read the rest. We all know that everything about layering is fun. And I will still keep on rockin’ my layering game. But after this session, I just know that I will now not only layer random pieces and different lengths, but also have to make sure, that the different lengths I am playing with do not make me look smaller than I already am. Turns out that ankle boots make me appear smaller than I already am (but well, I can’t live without them so I guess I still have to think about a reasonable compromise.) Also I have to be a bit careful, when it comes to oversized blouses (yes this hurts my soul too) because they also make me appear smaller. But there are also very good knows that kind of push my ego after the heartbreaking news:
I’M EXTRA
Exactly. That’s right. I kinda loved hearing that I’m extra. Extravagant. Meaning that I always go for everything that’s not basic. Lace, prints, glitter, shimmer and every kind of extraordinary little detail – even if it’s just a little detail. I feel so Beyoncé right now ;P
TIME TO SHOW SOME SKIN
Weiiird. Maybe you already noticed, that I don’t really show a lot of cleavage. Why? Easy to answer. Some would say that I am blessed with having a bit more than others when it comes to my bust measurement. I feel like I want less of it. Showing cleavage often feels like I am dressing too revealingly, like I am calling for attention. Ever since, scarfs and turtle necks have been my best friends. Maria told me, that showing cleavage doesn’t always go along with showing a lot. And she’s right. I definitely will try to wear more tops that show a little bit of cleavage. She also told me which types of cleavage fit best for me and captured everything in my own stylebook:
- Heart shaped
- Asymmetrical
- V-neck
- Turtleneck (depending on the collar because my neck disappears easily)
STYLEBOOK – MY HOLY SCRIPTURE FOR THE FUTURE
At the end of our session, Maria gave me her personalized stylebook (which is pretttyyy cute btw). She wrote down everything I needed to know because after three hours chatting with her I was packed with all the information I would forget on my way home anyway. I really am glad, that she wrote down everything for me. Not only because I want to know what type of cuts, colors, patterns and fabrics are meant for me, but also because it is a perfect guide that I can use, to not buy too much and have nothing to wear. Can you still follow me? Knowing what’s good for you, what suits you and where to definitely keep your hands off, will help you to build your capsule wardrobe. And that’s exactly what I’m going for right now, cause honestly. I have too much clothes, too little space. I am really glad that I got to visit Maria. Even if everyone thinks that especially bloggers/fashionbloggers should know what to wear and what not, sometimes we all think we know what’s best for us because we see it through different eyes, but then again some things have their formula.
Thank you Maria for your great advise. I’ve learned a lot. But the best thing about this asking for her help is that she gave the greatest advise: The most important rule is not to face a facade. Authenticity is the key.
If you want to learn more about your personal type and want to know what colors or style fit you the most, don’t hesitate to visit her!
